Britain's Norrie stunned by Coria in Argentina

British number one Cameron Norrie suffered a surprise defeat by Federico Coria in the Argentina Open.

The second seed received a bye into the second round and lost 6-2 4-6 6-3 to home hope and world number 106 Coria.

The defeat means Norrie, a finalist in Buenos Aires last year, will drop out of the world's top 20 when the rankings are updated on Monday.

Norrie will hope to avoid falling further down the rankings when he tries to defend his Rio Open title next week.

Elsewhere on Thursday, Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner swept past France's Gael Monfils to reach the quarter-finals of the Rotterdam Open.

World number four Sinner, who playing in his first tournament since his triumph in Melbourne, won 6-3 3-6 6-3 to set up a last-eight encounter with Canada's Milos Raonic.

However, there was an upset for Danish third seed Holger Rune, who fell to a 6-4 1-6 6-3 defeat by Kazakhstan's Alexander Shevchenko,

Fourth seed Hubert Hurkacz also suffered a surprise 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (7-5) 7-6 (7-4) loss against Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor in Rotterdam.

Meanwhile, former world number 33 Jenson Brooksby will be able to return to competition on 3 March after his 18-month doping ban was reduced by five months.

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) said on Thursday that new information had come to light and, following a reassessment, it was agreed that Brooksby's fault for the Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) was "not as high as previously found" by an independent tribunal in October 2022.
