1. Mbappe scores as PSG cruise past AC Milan

   Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappe was on target as Paris St-Germain went top of Newcastle's Champions League group with a clinical win over AC Milan.

   The hosts are now two points above second-placed Borussia Dortmund, who are level on points with Newcastle in third but above them due to their head-to-head record.

   Mbappe opened the scoring against Milan in the 32nd minute with a driven shot into the bottom corner.

   And second-half goals from Randal Kolo Muani and Lee Kang-in secured all three points for the French champions, who bounced back in impressive style from a chastening 4-1 defeat at St James' Park.

   Newcastle United suffered the first defeat of their Champions League campaign as Borussia Dortmund secured a vital victory on a rain-soaked night at St James' Park.

   Eddie Howe's side started their return to Europe's elite competition in impressive fashion with a draw against AC Milan in San Siro before a memorable thrashing of Paris St-Germain on Tyneside.

   Newcastle, however, could not rediscover that same intensity while Dortmund belied their status as Group F's bottom side prior to the game with an impressive display and secured victory through Felix Nmecha's composed finish in first-half added time.

4. Good morning

   It had all started so well for Newcastle on their return to the Champions League but, as one tabloid put it, Eddie Howe's side fell "back Toon to earth" with a 1-0 defeat at home to Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night.

   The Manchester City band waggon rolls on, however, after an Erling Haaland double at Swiss side Young Boys helped the defending champions to a third consecutive win.

   And Celtic played out an absorbing 2-2 draw at home to Diego Simeone's wily Atletico Madrid side.
