Joe Allen is to leave his role on Swansea City's coaching staff after Saturday's final game of the season against Charlton Athletic.

Allen departed Swansea as a player having announced his retirement last May, only to return alongside fellow club legend Leon Britton to support new head coach Vitor Matos in November 2025.

But the 36-year-old Wales great will bid farewell once more as he brings to an end what was always expected to be a short-term stint in Swansea's backroom team.

Allen and Britton were brought in following the appointment of Matos, who was initially unable to bring in his staff from previous club Maritimo due to work permit issues.

The two former Swansea midfielders then remained in place even after Portuguese trio Diogo Medeiros, Toze Mendes and Goncalo Ricca – plus Ryan Maye, who came from Aston Villa – joined Matos in Wales in December.
