Players of Tottenham Hotspur celebrate as Celin Bizet Ildhusoy of Tottenham Hotspur (not pictured) scores her team's first goal during the Barclays Women's Super League match between Liverpool FC and Tottenham Hotspur at Prenton Park on February 04, 2024 in Birkenhead, England.Tottenham took the lead through Celin Bizet's fourth WSL goal of the season

Marie Hobinger scored an injury-time equaliser as Liverpool salvaged a point at home to Tottenham in the Women's Super League.

Celin Bizet looked to have scored the winner for the visitors with an unusual looped finish off her thigh but substitute Hobinger found the bottom corner with a crisp 18-yard finish in the 91st minute to earn the hosts a draw at Prenton Park.

A scrappy affair between the two sides battling to close the gap between themselves and the top four had looked destined to end goalless with both sides struggling to create chances in blustery conditions.

But the deadlock was broken with 19 minutes remaining after good work from Tottenham forward Martha Thomas on the right to set up Bizet.

That would have taken Spurs above Liverpool into fifth but Hobinger's late strike means they remain level on points, with the Reds ahead on goal difference and both sides five points behind fourth-placed Manchester United.

There was nothing between the sides in a forgettable first half with Thomas' header just before the interval being the closest either side came to an opener.

Liverpool started the second period strongly, but for all their possession and territorial advantage, they did not test Barbora Votikova and were then stung by Bizet's fortuitous goal against the run of play.

Matt Beard's side threw players forward in search of a reply but Tottenham looked more likely to grab a second on the break.

Amanda Nilden hit the post after being put clean through and Wang Shuang missed a glorious chance late on when she shot straight at Rachael Laws with just the goalkeeper to beat.

Three minutes later, Liverpool were level and, while the home side pushed for a winner, that was how it remained.
