Manchester City celebrate after Yui Hasegawa scores against TottenhamManchester City were knocked out of the League Cup at the semi-final stage by eventual winners Arsenal last season

Manchester City reached the semi-finals of the Women's League Cup with victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

Midfielder Yui Hasegawa drove a powerful long-range effort over the head of Barbora Votikova to give City a first-half lead.

Four-time champions City were controlling throughout and were rarely troubled in the final third by Spurs.

The semi-final draw takes place live on Sportsday on the BBC News channel on Friday (18:30 GMT).

City attacked with fluidity, Hasegawa and Jess Park spraying passes to Lauren Hemp and Chloe Kelly who tried to find gaps on the wings.

Blues boss Gareth Taylor rewarded Park for her impressive performance from the bench in Sunday's league win against Leicester City and Park proved to be an important creative influence, linking play and making intricate runs around the box.

Spurs were mostly limited to sitting back and defending, closing down space and making it difficult for City to break through their back line.

With Hasegawa's goal having given them the early lead, City comfortably strode to victory despite failing to extend their advantage.

City have reached the final four in five of the past six seasons and last won the competition in 2021-22.
