St Mirren say the Scottish FA's referee department agrees the video assistant referee should have recommended an on-field review of the decision not to give them a penalty at Ross County.

Saints believe there should have been a review for a handball by Ryan Leak.

Toyosi Olusanya earned a point for the Buddies after Jordan White's opener.

"Having been allowed to review the full VAR audio and footage it is clear there has been a mistake in the process," said a St Mirren statement.

"There was a quick VAR review that centred around a shirt pull on James Bolton in the box. We also believe this could have been a penalty but understand that is subjective.

"However, the handball was a factual event, and the referee department has agreed that this should have led to an on-field review."

Saints added that while they "appreciate the openness and transparency from the referee department in reviewing this incident" they are "frustrated the correct process wasn't followed".

St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson said after the 1-1 draw he believed his side should have had a penalty but that "there's no point me crying about it - they're not going to change the game".

The point kept St Mirren on course for back-to-back top-six finishes while County remained in the relegation play-off spot.
