Jonny Evans warms up for a gameJonny Evans rejoined Manchester United after leaving relegated Leicester City at the end of the 2022-23 season

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans will miss Saturday's match with Luton Town and is a doubt for Northern Ireland's final Euro 2024 qualifiers.

Evans, 35, was injured in Wednesday's Champions League defeat in Copenhagen.

Northern Ireland travel to Finland on 17 November before hosting Denmark in their final qualifier three days later.

"I can't say [if he will feature for Northern Ireland] as we don't have the finished assessment," said United manager Erik ten Hag.

He added: "We don't have, at this moment, a full assessment done. We have not finished it.

"We do not have all the details so far but in terms of tomorrow [against Luton] he is out."

Evans was forced off after just 13 minutes of United's game in Copenhagen on Wednesday after pulling up off the ball as he made his first Champions League appearance for the club in nine years and 333 days.

Ten Hag will have Victor Lindelof back in his Premier League squad after the defender missed the win over Fulham through illness, while Rafael Varane could also fill in for Evans.

If Evans is to miss Northern Ireland's final two Euro 2024 qualifiers it would be a further blow to Michael O'Neill in what has been an injury-hit campaign.

Northern Ireland cannot qualify for the finals in Germany but O'Neill has spoken about the centurion defender's importance as he looks to develop a youthful squad.
